Do I need a dental implant for each of my missing teeth?
It depends on several factors. Since every case is unique, we will need to see you for a consultation to determine the best course of treatment for you. Sometimes, leaving the missing space or doing a bridge is a better option.
-
What is the process of getting a dental implant?
The process is very straightforward. The implant is placed into your jawbone and is left alone to fuse for up to four months. After fully healing, we then obtain records for the lab to have your tooth fabricated. If bone grafting is required, this can increase treatment time.
-
Will it function and feel like a natural tooth?
Yes, expect the implant tooth to feel different from a natural tooth, but it should function the same.
-
Can I expect excessive pain with this procedure?
Although there will be moderate pain, it is like the pain of teeth extractions. Our team uses a combination of anesthetics to help control your pain and keep you as comfortable as we can.
-
Can I expect pain after this procedure?
Though experiences will vary, most patients can expect some soreness and slight swelling after their procedure. It is recommended to take OTC Tylenol and Ibuprofen rotation; however, stronger pain medication can be prescribed to help alleviate any discomfort.
-
How much time should I take off work for recovery after my procedure?
Most patients can return to work the following day. Certain cases could require more time off from work. A work excuse release can be provided for additional days off if needed.
-
Can dental implants fail?
While titanium dental implants do have a 95+% rate of success, yes, they can still fail. Some of the things that may contribute to failure:
- Failure of new bone integration
- Tobacco use
- Diabetes
If your implant fails within the first year, replacement will be at no cost to you.
-
Can I be put under for the procedure?
Both options of IV conscious and oral pill sedation are available. The medicine will provide relaxation and, in most cases, make it so you don’t remember your procedure. For oral pill sedation, a custom prescription will be written, and you can pick it up at your local pharmacy. NOTE: A driver is REQUIRED both ways for this procedure, because of the sedation medication. You MUST NOT drive a motor vehicle or operate any machinery after taking your medication.
-
Does your practice provide guarantees or warranties?
If a dental implant fails to integrate with the bone, we will replace it at no cost to you. We warranty the crown or bridge for 2 years. To keep this warranty, patients must return every 6 months for hygiene and maintenance of their implant(s). This warranty does not apply to patients who continue to use nicotine, have uncontrolled diabetes, or develop any other uncontrolled systemic conditions that compromise their implants.
-
Are payment plans available?
Yes. Our practice offers payment plans, including third-party financing. We work with our patients to meet them where they are.
